All my art for free.

As some of you already know, in 2025 you can visit me in my studio in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoons and chose AN ARTWORK FOR FREE. One or two. It can be for yourself, but it can also serve as a present. (The first occasion is Saturday 18 January.) I will try to keep the Saturday afternoons free. But to be sure that I will be there, and that there are not already too many people coming, it is necessary to send me a message in advance telling me that you consider coming and around what time. Next I will respond that I will (or in rare cases will not) be present and that a relaxed meeting is possible. If Saturday afternoons are never possible for you, we can also try to find another time, a time that suits both of us. Keep also in mind that in order to have relaxed and somewhat personal meetings, I only receive a few people each Saturday.

Work that is available.
Over the last 45 years I have made many artworks. I always registered my works in an excel sheet. Therefore I can tell that altogether I created 2007 works. Of these I sold 1023, that is, a bit more than half. (There were years I could live from the proceeds.) The other half —almost 1000— I still store in my studio. This is not that hard since these are all drawings and photos which I can keep in portfolios. Such numbers appear to be very high, but given the way I work, they are not that high. When I drew with models I easily created 6 drawings in a week. Usually more. (Moreover, after a long brake I now draw again with a model once a week. Therefore the number still increases.)
The drawings have various sizes. Common are sizes around 30×30, 50×50, 70×75 and 100×115 cm. I used and use different techniques. I also made and still have etchings and dry points. (Did not include them in the mentioned numbers.) Have a look at the pages on the website to get an idea of sizes and techniques. If you were to come to my studio and chose a work, larger drawings can be rolled and next taken away. Among the drawings males —faces and nudes— are much overrepresented. (I made more drawings with male models, and drawings of females always were easier to sell, but some are still present.) In my studio there are also printed photographs and some are mounted on aluminum or dibond and some are also framed. (Some of these are large. The largest is 80×125; the picture of a penis floating in space.)
Before coming to my studio it is advisable to have had a look at the pictures on my website —www.hansabbing.nl— and decide what kind of works you are and you are not interested in. This will enable me to show work that may be interesting.

Why I am giving my works for free:
My dealer has died and I will not look for another. Too much hassle and at an exhibition only a few works would be sold. —In my studio there is also a kind of exhibition as quite a few works hang on the walls.— At my death all my unsold artworks will be destroyed. This is what I instructed my executor-of-will to do. For him distributing them would have been a hell of a job. But it is not so far yet. So why not try to give many works a temporary new home, a home where people can still see and enjoy them for a while.

Photos of works: a possibility:
Of almost all works shown on my website I have high quality digital files, which can be printed. Contact me and I will send files to you (for free) as email attachments, and you can use them for prints. (And, if you wish, I can give advise for printing. The prints can be better and on thicker paper than, for instance, the HEMA offers.
On the pages of my website there are also pictures of works that have been sold. Most of the time this is mentioned in the caption. Of these also digital files are present
The eyes of the majority of (freestyle) heads on 70×75 paper look at you. For some people it is a bit much to have a live-size face on the wall with eyes continuously watching you. But the drawing can be good. In this case a much smaller print of the work can be an attractive alternative as quite a few of my former costumers found out.

Some requests:
I would appreciate it, if a work would for at least one year be in a position where there are regularly people who can see it. (Can be in the toilet.) If you wish, you can send me a picture. I would also appreciate it if “in exchange” you would make a donation to a good cause. Would be nice if you let me know which cause this is. But I do not want to know the amount!!

My studio and how to get there.

The address is Krelis Louwenstraat 1, 1051NZ Amsterdam. This is a former school building at the corner of the Krelis Louwenstraat and the Wiltzanglhaan. Generally there is free parking space nearby. Travelling by public transport from the Central Station one can take bus 21 direction Geuzenveld, get off at the Bos and Lommerplein and walk from there. Walking from Station Sloterdijk is another option. Anyway have a look at Google Maps.
At Krelis Louwenstraat 1 in the entrance hall there is an intercom system. Type 1B19 or call me (0612117514) and I will come and fetch you.
